On Microsoft Word there is a bug that prevents users from opening or saving documents if they have not quit the application for an extended duration. 


  • To quickly resolve this issue, completely close and Quit the application by either pressing Command-Q or by going to Word in the top left corner and selecting Quit Word.
  • If you are unable to Save Documents before restarting the application, you can save them to an Online Location. For instructions on this process, click here.
  • If after quitting Word the issue persists, try restarting your laptop. When restarting, ensure that Microsoft Word is not still open.
