Question

What can I do to stop pop-ups?

Answer

There are two ways in which to remove pop-ups. One way is by running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware , and the other way is by altering your Browser Extension Preferences . If applications (e.g. Google Chrome ) are continually opening after you close them or your websites are constantly being redirected then you'll want to run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware , whereas if your browsers are constantly plagued by unrelated ads, then you'll want to check your Browser Extension Preferences .

Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware :

  1. Open your Application Folder.

  2. Go to Utilities.

  3. Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware .

  4. Often, if you haven't opened the application before, it may require you tp agree to some terms and conditions. Select Agree.

  5. If there is an update available select Install Update.

  6. The update with then begin to Download.

  7. To install updates, it will require the Administrator's Name and Password. This is just your Student ID (UID) and Password as you are all the administrator's of your computers.

  8. When Malwarebytes Anti-Malware  loads, select Scan.

  9. The Malware Scan will begin.

  10. Once your computer has been scanned, there are two possible outcomes.
    1. Either your computer will be Clean and have No Adware, allowing you to just press OK.

    2. Or there will be adware found with the option of removing it. Select all of the boxes that are relevant (sometimes it detects Google Chrome  )and click Remove Selected.

Check your Browser Extension Preferences  as sometimes when you download things and click Agree, then you are inadvertently allowing these applications to install malware onto your computer.
