Answer
The most common reason as to why applications are randomly opening could be due to malware on your computer. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is at your disposal to help you rid your computers of malware.
- Open your Application Folder.
- Go to Utilities.
- Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
.
- Often, if you haven't opened the application before, it may require you tp agree to some terms and conditions. Select Agree.
- If there is an update available select Install Update.
- The update with then begin to Download.
- To install updates, it will require the Administrator's Name and Password. This is just your Student ID (UID) and Password as you are all the administrator's of your computers.
- When Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
loads, select Scan.
- The Malware Scan will begin.
- Once your computer has been scanned, there are two possible outcomes.
- Either your computer will be Clean and have No Adware, allowing you to just press OK.
- Or there will be adware found with the option of removing it. Select all of the boxes that are relevant (sometimes it detects Google Chrome
)and click Remove Selected.
- Either your computer will be Clean and have No Adware, allowing you to just press OK.
- Once you've completed these steps your computer should be free from Malware and applications should no longer open of their own accord.
- If after you've run AdwareMedic
the problems persist, you will need to run Sophos Anti-Virus
.
- Open Sophos Anti-Virus
. This can be done from the Applications File or from the Finder Toolbar > Scan This Mac.
- Once the application has opened, select Scan Now.
- Click Scan With Current Privileges.
- Wait for the scan to Complete. This may take some time to complete if you have a lot of data. Once it is finished, any issues you were having with your browser should be fixed.
- This is what you should see upon completion of the scan if there was no virus present.
- If there was a virus present, you will be redirected to Quarantine Manager. Let Quarantine Manager Clean Up the virus and it will be removed from your computer.
